How Do I Measure My Fence on the Satellite Map?

Click once where the fence starts, then click at every corner and at the spot where it ends. Each click drops a post, and the calculator adds up the feet as you go. A typical backyard fence starts at a back corner of the house. It runs out to the property line, follows the line around the back of the yard, and returns to the other corner of the house. Draw that as one run. Need a short piece on the side yard too? Double click to end the first run and start a new one anywhere else.

Close is good enough. Satellite photos can lean a few feet, and an oak canopy will hide a property line completely, so drag any post to nudge it where you know the line really runs. If you already have your footage from a survey or a tape measure, type it into the linear feet box and the calculator will use your number. Planning a pool enclosure? Our page on aluminum fences covers heights and picket spacing.

What Is Included in This Fence Price Range?

The range covers material, posts, concrete, hardware and installation labor for the style you pick. Gates are priced one at a time. A double drive gate costs roughly twice a walk gate, since it needs heavier posts and two leaves that have to meet and latch. Check the removal box and tearing out your old fence, including the haul away, is added at $2 a foot.

Short fences carry a small setup charge. Rolling out a crew, a truck and a load of material costs about the same for 60 feet as it does for 160, so jobs under 150 feet pick up a few hundred dollars to cover it. The low number is the base price. The high number leaves room for what a satellite photo can't show. Still deciding between materials? Why Might My Final Fence Quote Be Different?

The calculator assumes a fairly flat yard, normal sandy soil and a clear path along the fence line. Real yards don't always cooperate. These are the things that move a price once we are standing on your property:

An old fence with heavy concrete around every post takes longer to pull, so our fence removal crew will look at it in person. The fastest way to a firm number is a free on site estimate. Send your drawing with the form above, or contact Byers Fence and we will set a time to come out.

Do I Need a Permit if My Fence Costs Less Than $7,500?

Possibly not a building permit, but check before you build. Florida House Bill 803 took effect July 1, 2026. It waives the building permit for qualifying single family residential projects valued under $7,500. When your estimate lands below that line, the calculator shows a note.

Fences are where cities disagree most. Many cities and counties still require a zoning permit for any new fence, with its own fee, so they can check height and setbacks. Work in a flood hazard area is not covered by the exemption. You also can't split one fence into two smaller contracts to stay under the limit. And your HOA still gets its say on the design. Rules vary from DeLand to Sanford, so ask us during your estimate and we will check what your address needs before any posts go in.
